10 TV: Crime Stoppers on Thursday announced a $2,000 reward leading to the arrest of a man responsible for at least three thefts at United Dairy Farmers locations. The most recent theft occurred on Dec. 9 at the UDF store located at 2635 W. Broad St. The same crimes occurred on Nov. 19. One of them occurred at the same location, while the other occurred at the location at 530 S. Hague Ave. The thief is described as black and between 30 to 35 years old. He is about 6 feet 5 inches tall, has a dark complexion and was clean-shaven. He wore a gray toboggan with a black, horizontal stripe and a red shirt under a gray sports-style logo jacket that had black leather sleeves and the name "City of Dreams" in yellow lettering across the upper part of the back. Police said that thief also wore light blue jeans and white athletic style shoes. According to Crime Stoppers, the reward is offered for information received by Dec. 28. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 614-645-8477 or leave a tip by using their Web site. Text tips can be sent to "274637" with key word "TIP125."
NBC 4: City prosecutors said it’s not just the time of year to buy, but also the time of year to steal. Officials said that shoplifting numbers are skyrocketing… Columbus Assistant City Prosecutor Bill Hedrick said he’s keeping an eye on shoplifters, as well. This year, he has filed more than 2,400 shoplifting charges—double what he saw in 2007.
WSYX 6: As the cold weather hits, so do car thieves. All over Columbus, drivers are learning the hard way it's not a good idea to leave your car unattended as it warms up. Columbus police call it a warm-up auto theft. Detectives say since the beginning of the month there have been 365 auto thefts in Columbus. 1 in 3 are because the owner left the car running and walked away, both in driveways and on streets as well as places like convenience stores.
