Brian Hartline’s family is strongly urging the wide receiver to return to Ohio State for his senior season, according to a source with knowledge of their conversations. On Tuesday, Hartline and five other juniors turned in forms that will gage their potential draft status.
“He’s not ready. No one thinks he is ready. No one thinks he will make a good professional,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Every conversation I know of has involved stay in school or something like it. He is still thinking over what his decision.”
While the wide receiver prospects are weaker than previous season, this does not guarantee Hartline as either a first round or first day selection. And if other underclassman declare, his stock plummets… Top prospects include Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) and Percy Harvin (Florida).
“Maybe its about pride, people telling him he cant succeed,” said the source. “In this case, he can’t succeed. You may get one, two wide receivers that become stars in the third round, Wes Welker or what have you, but Brian needs another year. Brian needs Coach [Tressel] that one more season.”
In his three seasons, Hartline has 90 catches, 1,429 yards, and 12 touchdowns. This season, he has only grabbed 21 catches for 479 yards. Hartline has managed at least one reception in thirty consecutive games.
