For the fifth time in seven seasons, Arizona will host the Ohio State Buckeyes. According a senior university official, Fiesta Bowl representatives have informed Ohio State (10-2), they will forgo selecting Utah and instead select the Buckeyes to oppose Texas on January 5. An official announcement will be made Sunday (Fox - 8 pm). The official spoke to us on condition of anonymity.
Since 2002, Ohio State has appeared in three Fiesta Bowls and one Tostitos National Championship Game. In 2002, they defeated Miami 31-24 in double overtime to win their last national championship. In 2003, they defeated Kansas State 35-28. In 2005, they defeated Notre Dame 34-20. In 2006, they lost a national championship to Florida 41-14.
The Buckeyes have twice met Texas. In 2005, they lost 25-22 in Columbus. In 2006, they won 24-7 in Austin. This season, the Longhorns are 11-1. Their season includes a 45-35 defeat of Oklahoma, who will likely play for a national championshp.
