A Good Day for the Good Guys

NBC 4: Police said they have arrested a suspect in connection with a double shooting on Tuesday evening. The shooting occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, when, police said, Thomas L. Smith entered an apartment on Shanley Drive and became involved in an argument with a resident and his brother. During the argument, police said, shots were fired and 21-year-old Douglas Lovett and 19-year-old Aaron Lovett were struck… Douglas was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Aaron was transported to OSU Medical Center Main and was listed in serious condition. Smith allegedly fled the scene on foot and a warrant was issued for his arrest. According to Columbus Police Sgt. Rich Weiner, SWAT teams were called to a home on East 13th Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. SWAT entered the home and arrested Smith without further incident.

NBC 4: A second former owner of Captain Woody’s accused of drug charges pleaded guilty Wednesday. Joseph Marasco was one of the owners of a popular Buckeye Lake bar, Captain Woody’s. He and partner Robert Fusner were accused of conspiring to traffic cocaine and marijuana throughout Central Ohio and using the profits from the drugs to launder the money through the purchase of boats, cars and Captain Woody’s. Federal investigators said Marasco and Fusner were dealing drugs for more than seven years, bringing it from other states and Canada into Central Ohio. Marasco pleaded guilty to fraud and false statement charges and conspiracy to distribute controlled substance charges Wednesday. Fusner, 33, admitted to conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana and evading taxes on his drug profits in early March.
