BREAKING: Skye Bar Freezes Promotions

Beyond the New Year’s Eve celebration, Skye Bar has no further events scheduled and promoters have been told not to book further events, according to an employee who spoke with Gossip Cbus. According to the employee, who spoke with us on condition of anonymity, speculation is now rampant among the staff as to when the exact closing will occur.

Easton Evaluation: The Buckle

If you read us everyday (and I know most of you do), you will remember that I praised (actually gushed about) Christian Audigier. Imagine my surprise, when amongst the bland collections and putrid sales associates, I walked into The Buckle, which not only prominently displayed the Audigier\Ed Hardy line, but also featured an adorable and extremely thoughtful sales associate.

Both the Buckle’s men’s and women’s collections are stellar. Featuring unique designers, who are clearly not afraid of a risk (refreshing considering many of the safe, sorry ensembles I had thus far), the collections perfectly blend casual hoodies and jeans with explosively colored selections, which are perfect for the nightlife. Whatever the taste of your significant other, you will find the perfect statement clothing to match their personality.

For men, I recommend the BKE London Sweater ($56.50) and the Division E Crown t-shirt ($54.50). For women, I recommend the Billabong Stephens coat ($89.50) and the Daytrip Rose top ($26.50). Truthfully, I could recommend so many more… However, I suggest you venture into the Buckle… You’ll love every minute…

Easton Evaluation: Lucky

Fashion has exploded. Seemingly every week, there are new labels and styles, new mindsets and trends. With all this competition, designers must constantly seek originality. They cannot wait for their following… They must make themselves stand out… They must make the customer want to buy them, wear them…

Lucky hasn’t learned this lesson… Their collection is neither innovative or insipid, neither decadent or disastrous… Their ensemble straddles the fence in an uninspired manner, the kind you would see at Sears… Their print patterns are overdone, their jeans are pedestrian… Lucky is a name that could have progressed this holiday season, given Aeropostale and Gap’s futility… Instead, they joined the ranks of the unimpressive…

Their sales associates were equally miserable… It seems as though a rabid infection is making it’s way throughout the majority of Easton’s clothing stores… An infuriating plague of people who took jobs as sales associates and then forgot they were sales associates.

Send Lawyers, Guns, and Bunnies...

Cops Collar Polite Bank Robber

NBC 4: Authorities say they have arrested a bank robber who wrote a threatening note to the teller, but included a “please” and “thank-you” in his instructions. That event was at a National City Bank at 1886 North Nigh on December 5th. Columbus police have arrested Michael R. Dukes and charged him with that crime. He got only a small amount of money and a dye pack exploded as he made his getaway, so the cash he did get was tainted with the stain. The original description of the perpetrator described him as young---about 18 to 21—and carrying a book bag. He’s in custody charged with the bank robbery.

I know I’ve been keeping a crime count and I know that could be perceived at taking shots at the cops… I’m not… I’m taking shots at the morons who want to lay them off… The above shows why I don’t think any should be… Why we should hire more…

Easton Evaluation: Aeropostale

Aeropostale is constant. They are not the must have clothing line, yet they are ever present in every twenty-year-old’s wardrobe… The Aeropostale t-shirt that matches your hoodie… The Aeropostale jeans you pull from a pile and throw on only minutes before meeting your friends… Nothing about their collections ever screams flash or greatness… However, their consistency is remarkable…

That consistency continues this season to my great disappointment… This year’s collection is not a mess, it is not memorable… It is simply there… You want to buy it, because you have bought Aeropostale in the past. But, you don’t want to buy it, because nothing invests your imagination… It is as if the company took their staple status for granted… They produced an unremarkable line and hoped the consumer wouldn’t notice…

I did. I also noticed their terrible sales associates. They were scatted throughout the store… I assume they had knowledge of the product on the shelves…. Unfortunately, none asked if I needed anything… I don’t think they could have salvaged my opinion of the collection… but I think an effort was required…

Easton Evaluation: J-Crew

Cost and style are mutually exclusive. Unfortunately, any store can charge any price for anything. Justification or rationality are not required. What I may consider trash, they may price as exquisite. What I would consider exquisite, they may price as trash.

J-Crew epitomizes this reality. They price every piece as if it were a diamond. Sadly, a review of their collection will produce more coal than carats. For every score, there are one half dozen scares. Button downs, polos, and sweaters that you can either find mirrors of elsewhere, find better of elsewhere, or find more reasonably priced elsewhere. Again, I’m not saying this collection is vacant… It just isn’t worth the hype.

Happy Birthday Woody!

We promised. We deliver… Woody buying shots…

Easton Evaluation: Eddie Bauer

Eddie Bauer… When one thinks about this company, the mind pictures cold and snow, skiing and snowboarding, shedding the thick jacket and cuddling in front of a crackling fire… You absolutely, under no circumstances, think Eddie Bauer and picture that perfect shirt you can wear on a date….

Maybe you should… While their shelves were stacked with jackets, gloves, and other cold weather gear, I was stunned by their impressive collection of button down shirts ($43.99)… Who knew this company was versatile? Their colors should compliment any wardrobe and their patterns are something you would expect from Gap…

If you are looking to outfit your entire closet, this store is not at the top of the list… However, I recommend you spend ten minutes… Ten more minutes than I would have recommended two weeks ago…

NBC 4 Firefighters for Kids

NBC 4 would like to say thank you to many Central Ohioans who stepped up once again and took time out of your busy schedules to donate toys or money to our annual Firefighters 4 Kids Toy Drive. The toys will go to more than 5,000 Central Ohio families and it would have never been possible without the generosity of our viewers. Nearly 1,600 vehicles dropped off donations at our NBC 4 studios on Olentangy River Road filling two and a half semi trucks with thousands of toys. Monetary donations totaled more than $50,000. Toy donations can still be made at Columbus Fire Stations and monetary donations can be mailed to CME Credit Union.

Easton Evaluation: Forever 21

Christmas is, without question, the most demanding holiday. You have holiday parties, family commitments, friend commitments, shopping… All of this before the actual day and dinner… With so much of your precious time already budgeted, the very last thing you want to do is look when you are shopping… Sure, you can browse… But, if it’s a busy day and you’re not sure what you’re shopping for, you want the suggestions right in front of you…

Forever 21 will not accommodate you… Not only are their sales associates nonexistent (literally no one walking the floor when I was shopping), their collection is miserable… Yes, there are a few cute items, a shirt or jacket or dress I could see myself buying. Unfortunately, these items are few and far between… I would estimate the ratio of cute items found to time spent in the store was one for every ten minutes and this is definitely not what you want at Christmas…

If you have two hours to kill, walk into Forever 21 and you might walk out with a full shopping bag. But (and I’m speaking only for myself on this one), I cant remember the last holiday season I had even one hour to kill…

BREAKING: Skye Bar Busts

Skye Bar will close next month. According to multiple sources, the club has defaulted on it’s rent and has actually been losing money for several months. By January 1, Skye Bar will be unable to pay it’s employees and therefore cannot continue, what one source called, “an unsustainable financial pattern.”

The 10,055 square foot Skye Bar, which is located next to McFadden’s, was developed by Frog, Bear, and Wild Boar Bar Owners Tom Selvaggio and David Allsbrooks. No one associated with Skye Bar could be reached for comment concerning this story.

Taryn’s Last Shot

McFadden’s is, without question (and if I have said this before I apologize), one of the most unique venues in this city… Why is this? You never know quite what to expect… You never what might happen within any given minute… This is what draws you in, makes you walk from campus or the South Gateway garage in the freezing cold… And this is what makes you not want to leave… You don’t want to miss what happens next… You don’t want to be the one to hear the second hand story of the fight or the drama or the favorite bartenders final evening…

When this night started, it looked as though five minutes could be a useless stay… I thought last night was lazy… This night began with a dozen or so coffee cloches, circles of a half dozen friends talking and enjoying their happy hours, nut nothing else… No vibe, no energy… I assumed everyone was done with finals and here everyone was acting as though they had three tomorrow… An hour into the night, I was thinking of bailing for Sugar Bar (hey, free alcohol is free alcohol)… Then it happened…

I was checking my cell and someone approached me, someone who I had never met before (not unusual, I am Gossip Cbus)… He asked me, “Are you here for a happy hour with anyone?”

I said no… He then explained the happy hour process to me (which I found helpful, because if you read this blog, you know I’ve never been to McFadden’s before) and told me that I should go to the promotions person (Amy), tell her I was with him and then he would be one person closer to scoring a gift certificate… Now, I’ve been to McFadden’s a dozen times since football season started… But I’ve never had someone try to recruit me for a happy hour… Yes, I know, I said it… free alcohol is free alcohol and a gift certificate to McFadden’s would be well worth it… But, seriously, recruiting for happy hour?

About twenty minutes later, Woody (chief of security and a great person) and entourage entered for Woody’s birthday celebration… This turned the night from semi-interesting to officially interesting… The drinks started flowing, the energy increased, and finally, two hours into the night, McFadden’s was McFadden’s… As the night improved, a rumor started making it’s the way through the air… a rumor which eventually made it’s way to me and I was able to confirm… I’ll have the breaking news soon….

Several random conversations later, I run into Tad, another bouncer at McFadden’s and one of their very best people… After about four minutes of talk, a girl, I cannot use the word bunny as she wasn’t and I’d have to retire the word if I did use it for her, approached Tad… The chunky, drunken, leopard print wearing mess puts her arms around Tad and says “You look like you need a girl.” (I’m sure Tad did, but girl and wildebeest are two entirely different things)… There was a brief exchange, the girl apparently didn’t like the tone of the conversation and she split… At this point Tad gave me a look like, that one was entirely to drunk…

Imagine my surprise when twenty minutes later, the girl, crouched down first in a booth and then on a table, has to literally be carried out by two people… I was shocked (sarcasm duly noted)… The leopard disaster was followed five minutes later by another girl, carried out the door by a bouncer… People, if you cant handle your alcohol, don’t get drunk with people, and get drunk alone… Stay home, so I’m not forced (believe me its my pleasure) to mock you…

Amidst the overly intoxicated non-bunnies, Woody hit the bar to buy shots… Let me repeat that, Woody (who I must again say happy birthday to) hit the bar to buy shots… I am told we will have pictures tomorrow… After only a few moments, Woody was replaced (and though I like Woody, I must at this point say THANK GOD) by bunnies… A dozen bunnies, smiling, grinding, and shaking their asses… It was the moment everyone had been waiting for and it was summarized perfectly by Tad, “I love this job,” he says (he wasn’t even working tonight!).

As the dozen bunnies rocked the bar, I have to say that the two most impressive were the Lucky Charms… I know I haven’t mentioned either Sytease or Emily before, but they are outstanding… They are gorgeous, the work hard, and I know my opinion of their dancing was limited to what I saw on the bar, but I was impressed….

Speaking of random acts on the bar… Lester, who had been calling for graduating seniors all night, finally abandoned that call in a most unusual way… He took McFadden’s country… (No, I’m not kidding)… Garth Brooks, Dueling Banjos, Big and Rich and the song that stole the show… The Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels Band), complete with Paul, Jackson, Lester, and a friend on the bar playing (and I use that word loosely) what were supposed to be instruments (in reality, whatever was laying around behind the bar that they could get their hands on)… They posed, they acted… It was easily the most bizarre and entertaining moment of the evening…

The most poignant moment of the evening? In one word… Taryn… When I arrived tonight, I found out that this was her last night… (Unthinkable… These superstars actually move into our world and have real jobs?). On her last night, Taryn came dressed to remember, red Santa hat, red top, and a sash that read retired… As I watched her walk the bar, only moments before I left, shaking, buying free shots, I couldn’t help but think of all those moments and when she seemingly had customers eating (or drinking( out of the palm of her hand…

I left before close, but I can only imagine, as she counts out her tips and walks to her car for the last time tonight, what it must be like for her and what it will be like for the rest of us without her… Taryn, we will miss you… When you were good, you were the best we could watch… You were a superstar…

McFadden’s & Gossip CBUS Event

In February, McFadden’s and Gossip CBUS will unite for a very special evening. Want details? When I have them? You’ll have them! Until then, you know you love me…
