Huntington Bank Park Premiere Headlines Showcase Saturday

10 TV: The scoreboard works, the concession stands are stocked, and each blade of grass will be manicured to perfection as the Columbus Clippers prepare to unveil their new ballpark. After more than 18 months of construction, Huntington Park will be christened Saturday afternoon when the Clippers take on the Toledo Mud Hens. First pitch is 4:05 p.m.

General Manager Ken Schnacke said the team is anxious to show off the new stadium to the city and its fans. "When we open the gates tomorrow, how many times can we get you to say, 'Wow, this is so cool?'" Schnacke said.

The ballpark is trendy enough for the new generation of baseball fans, but was also built with a sense of history for baseball purists. Schnacke said he has no doubt that Saturday's Opening Day will be remembered by all fans. "Tomorrow is going to be one of the neatest days in modern Columbus' baseball history," he said.

Cooper Stadium's namesake, Harold Cooper, will serve as grand marshal of a downtown parade before Saturday's game. About 1,500 tickets set aside for the general public will go on sale at the ballpark at noon.
