Friday’s edition featured a diverse front page, which included a State of the State second cycle story, the Illinois Governor’s impeachment, and President Obama’s first law signing… Both the State of the State stories (front page and metro) were excellent. The front page’s only mistake was the omission of Kevin Mayhood’s USA vs. China study story, which editors buried on B3.
Tim May’s pair of columns, one on Ohio State’s recruiting class and one on Bobby Rahal’s IRL team lacking a sponsor were outstanding. The decision to place the Rahal story on the front page was also excellent (We haven’t seen an economic climate this nasty, but OSU recruiting happens every year)…
Meredith Heagney’s profile of Reverend Mike Peterson’s quasi-marriage counseling was a fascinating read… Not as fascinating, but equally important, was a should have been metro front page story on NBC 4’s layoffs… Sadly, the news was buried inside Life and Arts on D7…
