Quick Read

It’s game day. You assume the reporters, who either energize us or inform us, would write as if it’s game day. You would assume their columns would be entertaining and smart. Unfortunately, Monday’s Dispatch never came close to expectations…

With one notable exception, Ken Gordon’s “Something to Prove” (sports front page), which was brilliant, the columns were bland, ridiculous, or in the case of Tim May’s column about bowl match-ups buried on page C5 (what idiot made that decision?)…

The most incredible disappointment of this game day was the front page “No Mo Mojo” story… The story had a great concept. It had monster potential. Unfortunately, there was no color. I kept reading for that one anecdote that I could relate to as someone who endured the last three embarrassing losses, but I could never find it…

The most nauseating column was Bob Hunter’s, which was about an opinion poll… No, I am not kidding… He wrote an entire column on the fact that 90% of people who watch ESPN chose the Longhorns… It was like Hunter arrived today and said to himself, “It’s game day, nothing left to write…”
