Quick Read

Ken Gordon’s column (sports front page) dissecting and recounting the legacy of the latest Ohio State class was brilliant. It beautifully contrasted the class’ successes (five consecutive Michigan wins and 43 victories overall) with their three crushing national stage defeats (Florida, LSU, and USC).

Gordon and Tim May’s tag team coverage of the Alex Boone-Brian Orakpo clash was also enjoyable. Unfortunately, Bob Hunter erased their good work with his scattered column on the Fiesta Bowl as a referendum on Jim Tressel. The first half of the column was great. The second half was a slobbering and sloppy apology for Tressel and rebuke of Ohio State fans that dare criticize… Bob, once again, you do not work for Ohio State public relations… Don’t spin for them…

An intriguing column (which I found perplexingly laughable) was “Couples’ Big Day Budgets Smaller” (Arts and Life front page)… The story has some insightful statistics concerning catering and wedding amenities… But the quotes were weak and seriously, find me a bride that will truthfully admit to scrimping on their wedding day…

Equally ridiculous was the travel front page’s story on “O-H-I-O” being spelled out worldwide… Didn’t they do a television commercial about that?
