10 TV: A man who pleaded guilty to throwing a punch that killed a man outside an Arena District bar was sentenced on Monday to 60 days in jail. Brent Goode also received a four-year suspended jail term, was sentenced to three years probation and will be under house arrest for 60 days… Last month, Goode pleaded guilty to felonious assault in connection with the death of Nick Foss.
Investigators said that on April 6, 2008, the two men got into an argument about a case of beer outside GasWerks bar, located at 487 Park St. According to prosecutors, the argument escalated and Goode punched Foss, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement… Foss, a nursing student, died from his injuries a few days later.
Judge Stephen L. McIntosh issued a challenge to Goode to make something of his life because he was responsible for taking one with so much potential. "We have a life sentence that's with us every day," said Charles Foss, the victim's father. "You don't come to terms with it."
Terri Foss, the victim's mother, said that she misses the text messages she used to get from Nick that said he loved her. The case was moved to a larger courtroom because an overflowed crowd. McIntosh said that in his 25 years on the bench that he has never seen such an outpouring of support for one individual.
