You Have Questions... I Have Answers

Since Gossip Cbus began, I’ve been swamped with e-mail (thanks for the love)… While I’ve tried to give individual responses to several, I also know that some of the questions are questions others may have and thus, answering them publicly would be better… Therefore, from time to time, I will answer questions where everyone can see them…

Q: I’ve heard several rumors concerning your week away? Can you explain your absence?
A: Our previous post is an explanation. No additional statement will be issued.

Q: Red White and Boom is this city’s signature evening. How will you cover it?
A: Red White and Boom is this city’s most anticipated and spectacular event… We will have an announcement on Monday (June 29)…

Q: I’m a follower of yours on twitter and I noticed you’re approaching your 5,000th tweet… Anything special planned?
A: As with previous milestones, Gossip CBUS will have an announcement. We anticipate crossing our 5,000th post amidst Red White and Boom.

Q: Congratulations on your 1,000th post and 4,000 tweet. Will you ever other numbers?
A: Aside from posts and tweets (which are our foundation), Gossip CBUS will not obsess over our numbers. With that said, All Access has recorded three editions. Always Live has recorded 42 editions. Nightlife Live has recorded 78 editions.

Q: When you reference women, I’ve only noticed the terms bunny, heifer, and platinum bunny. Will you ever publish a women’s rating scale similar to your venue ratings scale?
A: Bunny was our original categorization. Heifer was created second. Platinum bunny is a recent conception. As original terms are coined, a women’s rating scale may result. No plans are immediate.

Q: Last week, Chris Corso and Mike Gallicchio were announced as presenters. When will you announce which presenters are presenting which awards?
A: Obviously, Gossip CBUS must confirm all of our presenters. Once this and the nominations are announced, we will reveal presenter’s order.

Q: How much of your writing is meant to provoke and how much of it do you actually believe?
A: That's the second secret I'll never tell... (You know you love me)…

Q: Will Gossip CBUS ever include photography with your columns?
A: Gossip CBUS is seven months old… As such, coverage opportunities and philosophies are altered and debated on an almost daily basis… Photography is an important aspect for any experience and it’s an aspect that will be incorporated into this website in the future… In what manner is still undetermined…

Q: How will you cover the Park Street Festival?
A: Absolutely, Gossip CBUS will cover the Park Street Festival… We will have an announcement on Wednesday (June 10)…

Q: Lodge Bar and Crown Princess Kadi have “separated?” What’s the real story?
A: Gossip CBUS has conducted a comprehensive investigation into this occurrence… We have considered every option and viewpoint and have decided that the best interests of everyone are maintained through silence.

Q: Since Lodge Bar and Crown Princess Kadi have separated, will anyone assume her title?
A: As I said, Crown Princess Kadi was this website’s initial superstar… She was the most referenced superstar and the first person I dealt with on an everyday basis… As of this typing, she has exited the industry… If she ever returns, she retains her title… If she never returns, her title remains vacant…

Q: Gossip CBUS broke Sugar Bar hosting Paris Hilton. How will you cover the event?
A: Obviously, Paris Hilton’s appearance is monumental and there will be coverage… We will have an announcement on Wednesday (June 3)…

Q: When you attend celebrity events (Brody Jenner, Pete Wentz), why not attempt interviews with the various celebrities?
A: Obviously, celebrities are the attraction… However, this website’s focus is this city… There are a thousand other websites where you can find random quotes from whomever the chosen subject is… We choose to cover the celebrity in context with the crowd, the event, and the overall venue…

Q: I’ve noticed you never refer to “venues” as busy or dead… Why is this and can you explain your scale?
A: We never refer to venues as busy or dead because those terms are both overly simplistic and not accurate… Is busy 100 people or 200 people or is busy only a completely crammed location? We choose to define patronage for venues in a broader context… Since you asked about our specific scale… Crushed (completely busy, venue is virtually impassable), Swarmed (Almost completely busy, venue still possesses walkways), Buzzing (every table and bar is occupied, but the random traffic is absent), Scattered (venue has a solid crowd, but nothing compelling), Vacant (venue is empty or virtually empty, less than fifty-one hundred people in it)…

Q: You seem to invent a new phrase or term in every post… Will you ever publish a glossary of them?
A: While I may ultimately publish definitions for our essential terms and phrases, this is not imminent. The cornerstone phrases are utilized repetitively and thus are easily discernable.

Q: The Gossip Awards were announced March 8. When will you finally start posting information?
A: I apologize for the wait… Voter’s information will be posted next Sunday…

Q: You’ve never discussed the wretched economy and it’s impact on nightlife… Why is this?
A: While no one can deny that unemployment has increased… I haven’t observed venue’s suffering as a result… One would expect consistently empty venues based on the news… However, the opposite is accurate… Venues have been consistently crushed…

Q: My friend and I very much enjoyed the first edition of Twitter Live Only. How often will you repeat Twitter Live Only?
A: While our schedule (like anyone’s schedule) remains subject to change… Our next Twitter Live Only is scheduled for May 29…

Q: Will Gossip CBUS cover Cinco de Mayo?
A: We will have Cinco de Mayo coverage on both this website and twitter. As for venues, that is in the decision process…

Q: I’m not on twitter, but I know you twitter events live… Will you ever cut and paste your twitter feed onto the website?
A: First, the advice I will give is join twitter and follow us. Second, as an answer to your question, we will never specifically cut and paste our twitter into a post. However, we will be enhancing our twitter coverage and that announcement will occur Monday.

Q: Besides the Gossip Awards, does Gossip CBUS have plans for any other events?
A: We are speaking with several venues. However, I would label any potential events as in the concept phase.

Q: You seem to mention certain people frequently. Do personal relationships play any role in your coverage?
A: Personal relationships play a role in every situation in everyone’s lives. However, my personal relationships play a very minimal role in what is written on this website. The frequency of certain people’s mentions comes from the coverage schedule, not my personal bias. When you cover the same venues or same section of town, you are likely to encounter the same people.

Q: I was at WNCI’s event on Friday… Why weren’t you?
A: I am a huge fan of WNCI. I know several of their people. I listen to their station. And they stage outstanding events… With that said, they have their schedule and we have ours. I am certain there will be occasions that our schedules intersect, Red White and Boom for example… However, if every outlet in the city showed up at th same events, think of how limited the coverage would be…

Q: Will you ever have coverage of Gallery Hop?
A: The Short North is one of the most treasured and unique aspects of this city. While we may not cover Gallery Hop specifically (although this remains a possibility), we have covered and will continue to cover various components of the neighborhood, such as artists, clothing shops, or galleries themselves.

Q: Can’t wait for Stealth & Style 2… When will it be posted?
A: Stealth & Style 2 shopping will occur between April 23-25. The reactions will begin appearing on April 27.

Q: You covered the Clippers opening day… So did everyone else… What is your rest of the season plan?
A: As I have stated previously, our coverage will include specific notable contests and the social aspect. With the new park and venues competing for the post contest crowd, I assume that our coverage will be extensive. However, every event is subject to scheduling.

Q: I haven’t seen anything on here about the spring game… Will you have any coverage?
A: The Ohio State spring game, the contest itself and it’s social aspect, is one of the most treasured and unique events in this city. While we are undetermined concerning the coverage angle, there will be coverage… I promise…

Q: Your coverage of R Bar last week seemed completely opposite of what you had written previously… Why was this?
A: Honestly, there isn’t a particular reason and we never meant for the coverage of the first two events to cause a stir… We were simply having fun with commenters from a previous column (“Columbus Bored With Jackets”)… R Bar’s promotions and venue staff are outstanding people and we look forward to covering, what we assume will be, outstanding crowds as the Blue Jackets skate in their first playoffs…

Q: I’ve noticed you cover a lot of local bands, but Columbus attracts it’s fair share of major acts for concerts as well… Will you ever cover a concert live?
A: While I have attended several concerts at both Nationwide Arena and Value City Arena (and all were great shows)… There is not a lot that you can cover… With local bands, we cover the music and act, as well as the venue and the crowd… With a major act, you couldn’t really do that… We are committed to the best social coverage in this city and we will be announcing some social coverage from summer concerts… But, I don’t for see ever twittering a concert live…

Q: Your twitter live events always seem to end at one or two, but your columns aren’t posted to four or later… What do you in between?
A: I’m elated you asked that question… We will have a major announcement concerning the events and time between wraps on Tuesday…

Q: I found both of your columns on the New Kids on the Block extremely offensive… What gives you the right to judge women as you did?
A: This is only one of the crush of e-mails and negative comments this website has received following Friday night’s writing… I am, through this e-mail, responding to all of the e-mails received… Let me be very clear… I understand some people are insulted… I understand some people are upset… I understand some people may have taken what I said as judgment… If you did take it as judgment or I have offended anyone, good… This website is meant to be controversial and provocative and I will not apologize for that… Keep reading…

Q: I’ve noticed your coverage of crime is pretty extensive… It seems out of character with the rest of your coverage. Can you explain?
A: Crime may be out of character with bunnies and nightclubs, but we cover crime because the volume of it in this city has increased and it deserves more than a blip inside of the paper or a quick thirty seconds on the evening news… We’re paying very close attention to crime, because frankly, not enough other people are…

Q: This is the last week of the Blue Jackets season… What do you have planned?
A: With the franchise only three points away (through either their wins or other’s losses) from a playoff birth, we will have last week coverage. Specifically, the April 8 contest versus the Blackhawks and either one of both of the April 10 and 11 contests versus the Blues and Wild…

Q: It’s the final two weeks of the Blue Jackets season. Do you have any coverage planned?
A: With Easter in two weeks and the heavy event schedule, and the fact that they have to series in the final two weeks with teams, we will not be covering every game. However, we will cover as much of these critical two weeks as possible. Check the website for coverage information.

Q: You’ve featured several events for the first week in April. Will you be covering them all?
A: While our schedule (like anyone’s schedule) remains subject to change… We will have coverage of (at least) the Celebrity Bartender Competition, the Donnie Wahlberg appearance, and the Beer Pong tournament.

Q: I’m a huge Clippers fan. How extensive will your coverage of the team and it’s new park be?
A: As with all Columbus franchises, our coverage of the team itself will remain unscheduled. We will cover specific notable contests and the social aspect. Also, as with the Jackets, if the team is a contender, our coverage will increase.

Q: Since you announced the Gossip Awards, you have not announced a lot of specifics. When can we expect those?
A: As you can likely imagine, an event on the scale of the Gossip Awards requires thousands of details. Everyone at the website has been working vigorously on aspects of the event and I promise you soon see announcements and items concerning presenters and sponsors.

Q: Two weeks ago, you announced Park Street Patio’s Celebrity Bartender Competition. When will you have more details?
A: We will unveil complete details tonight…

Q: Will Gossip CBUS be covering any Spring Break activities?
A: As Spring Break is an undefined, largely out of the city (or country) series of events, we will not have specific coverage. As always, we welcome stories or photos from those who participated.

Q: Are the ten categories for the Gossip Awards finalized or will you be adding categories?
A: While we certainly wont rule out the possibility of adding another category, we feel the categories we’ve selected best represent the aspects of the city, which we have covered in our initial months.

Q: Will Gossip CBUS be covering any pre-St. Patrick’s Day activities or only St. Patrick’s Day itself?
A: We will be covering both and we will also have announcements of all activities for St. Patrick’s Day and the days leading to it… As for twitter coverage or wraps, that is in the decision process…

Q: Do you plan on covering a Blue Jackets game that doesn’t involve the Detroit Red Wings?
A: As the two teams only meet once more this season, I would say that is a definite possibility… As for Blue Jackets coverage in the immediate future, that Red Wings game (as they have never taken a season series from the Red Wings) is a likely candidate for either twitter or a wrap…

On A Personal Note…

Rarely will I ever address criticism of myself, this website or it’s content on this website. I don’t believe in elevating critics. And I don’t feel as though this is the most appropriate channel for addressing criticism. With that said, I wish to address a pair of subjects, which in one form or another, have proven recurrent.

The first subject is the recent spate of e-mail and suppositions that have either slandered me personally or slandered the motivation for the content of this website or the content itself. I had no utopian optimism when this website launched… I know that if you do something different or dare to step beyond what is considered conventional, you will have critics. Some of those critics will threaten you. Others will attack you in unbelievable manners. Since this website launched, I have had both and I choose this moment to address them directly…

I will not address their epithets or hatred. Instead, I will focus on their general message that either my work is creepy and irrelevant or I must have some ulterior motivation to write what I write. As to the creepiness or relevance of my work, I believe our traffic numbers show that not only does this city enjoy or work, not only does the city find the work unique and useful, they have returned for seconds, thirds, and fourths. As to my motivation, it is nothing other than presenting an objective view of any night to this city.

Are there people I do not like in venues that I cover? Yes. That never affects the writing. Are their venues I would rather not enter? Yes. I do and the writing is not affected. Are there people who don’t like me and have told me so? Yes. It has not, nor will it ever affect the writing. And finally, as to the recent anonymous e-mails about my writings concerning Princess Kadi or Duchess Abbi or any other personnel I have discussed… I give them recognition because they deserve it. And because they are good at their job. I have no personal interest in them whatsoever. Also, I will not have my editorial content altered due to perception. Until senior management of any venue tells me to stop writing anything about anything, I will write anything I want, anytime I please. And the moment senior management demands editorial approval, is the moment I stop covering them and start covering their competitors.

The second subject I wish to address is the recent spate of anonymous comments on the nightlife wraps that are critical of the venue discussed… I know I will sound like a fifth grade teacher here, but children, take it outside… When seven comments show up on a story attacking another venue or one comment shows up on a story assailing another venue, I am smart enough to know that those comments are plants from an attacking venue.

This is neither the time nor place for one venue to assault another… If a venue doesn’t like the coverage someone else had received from us, plan a better event and invite us… Don’t use our forum as your forum.

I hope this statement resolves these matters.

Q: I really enjoyed Snowed Inn. What’s up next?
A: Gossip CBUS is discussing possible events with several venues. We will likely have an announcement on another event within the next month.

Q: I plan on attending the Arnold Classic this weekend. Will Gossip CBUS have any coverage?
A: We will have announcements on Thursday (March 5) about events that are taking place… As for twitter coverage or wraps, that is in the decision process…

Q: This Saturday, the Blue Jackets and Red Wings meet for the last time this season. Will Gossip CBUS cover this?
A: Yes, we will have coverage of the Blue Jackets final regular season meeting with the Red Wings. As for specific coverage details, expect those on Thursday.

Q: What does Lodge Bar All-Access mean?
A: Lodge Bar All-Access will be a unique view of the preparation, execution, and wrap of the Snowed Inn event (February 27). Via twitter, Gossip CBUS will take you inside one hour before and one hour after Lodge’s doors open and close. You will score a rare private peak into one of the bet venues in this city.

Q: I enjoyed your Blue Jackets-Red Wings twitter live? Will you be doing anything similar in the future?
A: While that depends on other scheduled events and commitments, Gossip CBUS also really enjoyed our Blue Jackets night out and the feedback it stirred… With several notable upcoming contests including Calgary, Vancouver, and a pair of rematches with Detroit (one of which is an NBC telecast), I would bet on another evening with Rick Nash…

Q: How does Gossip CBUS choose which events to cover?
A: I would love to say this is a complicated process that takes days if not weeks… It’s not… It’s honestly about what concepts sound interesting… Charity events take precedence over other events and venues and events we have promoted, take precedence over those we have not promoted… But, after that, it’s about concept…

Q: Will you ever announce “twitter live” before an event?
A: Prior to the Fiesta Bowl, the Back 2 School Bash, and the Blue Jackets vs. Red Wings, Gossip CBUS did announce that we would be live from those locations. As for other events, the decision to twitter or not twitter is based on several factors, which are unknown before our arrival. At some point, we may alter our policy and begin on announcements… For now, you may want to stay tuned…

Q: Will Gossip CBUS have Mardi Gras coverage?
A: We will have announcements on Monday (January 23) about events that are taking place… As for twitter coverage or wraps, that is also tentatively scheduled, but remains subject to change…

Q: I have noticed several charity announcements recently. Is philanthropy a goal of the website?
A: Even more than night life or breaking news, Gossip CBUS loves to be publicize charitable events, cover charitable events, and be involved in philanthropy through any manner available… If there are charities or groups who have checked out the site, but thought, it doesn’t fit our demographic, I encourage you to e-mail with events or your questions… As an active member of the community, Gossip CBUS is very interested in helping the community…

More Than Our Name…

Since Gossip Cbus began, I’ve been swamped with e-mail…. Normally, I respond to your questions once a week…. However, I received this question (occasionally as a comment) and I feel the need to respond to it individually… The question or comment centers around our existence as a simple city gossip column…

I know gossip is a part of who we are… It’s in our name… With that said, anyone who has spent any time at all on this website, anyone who has read one story, anyone who has bothered to look beyond our name, will realize we are much more than gossip. We aren’t and we wont be covering who is sleeping with who, who is using drugs, or who is being scene in this city, unless it is relevant to a story which we are covering…

I know we do a cover a lot of events and we post a lot of promos… I am proud of our nightlife coverage… I am equally proud of our breaking news coverage, our feature reporting, and our interviews… When this website began, it did so with one ambition, provide a unique service to this city and provide something for everyone in this city… I feel thus far we have done that and we will continue to do that…

And to those who dismiss us as a mere gossip column, I invite you to read the site and read it again… If you do, you will realize our attraction…

Q: Will Gossip CBUS have Valentine’s Day coverage?
A: We will have announcements on Wednesday and Friday about events that are taking place… As for twitter coverage or wraps, that is also tentatively scheduled, but remains subject to change…

Q: I saw on your site that Juicy Campus shut down. Does this help or hurt Gossip CBUS?
A: Obviously, any readers who read that site that now read us as a result of that shut down, helps Gossip CBUS. With that said, Juicy Campus and Gossip CBUS service two entirely different tastes… Juicy Campus was unchecked, unverified filth, which occasionally bordered on slander… Gossip CBUS is so much more… Again, we expect some readers from their shut down… But, if anyone is here looking for the same type of material, you wont find
it…
